Hi:
I just had to get a new laptop. I bought an HP with 4 G of memory, and 320 G of hard drive. I have JFW 14 installed. What search engine do you all prefer, Google, or Bing. I like Google, cause on my old laptop, it didn't work well with youtube. But I liked it otherwise. Google is okay, but seems to say a lot more unimportant information, like the search result number. What search engines do you all use and why. I downloaded Google Chrome, but hate it. Now, I can't unstall it.
Another question, how do I access the control pannel with Windows 8? I'm still getting used to this system. I've only had my computer for three days.
That's strange that it can't be uninstalled; not sure that I can help with that and the last question you had. I have gotten Google Chrome installed myself and didn't like it either, but was able to remove it thru the Add-or-Remove-Programs in the Control Panel.
As for what search engine I use though, I like DuckDuckGo. It is very easy to navigate, and although it doesn't have edit fields for many sites like Google can have, there are sets of characters you can type in along with your search term(s), and it will either have search results for the results in that site or will take you directly to that site. (I haven't tried it myself, but there is a link that lists all the character sets and what sites they stand for.) Also, I like that when you type in a term (for example "braille"), it first lists different meanings of that word. When you click on that term corresponding to the meaning you want, say "Braille is a system of writing for blind people", it will show the search results related to braille as a writing system. It also claims to respect privacy and not to track the user, so it won't save your search terms or show results corresponding to where you are unless you specifically type your location in with whatever you're looking for.
I like google because as android user I can see what I have searched for via google now.
I like Bing because they offer points for my searches I can exchange for goods and services, and keep a good history for referring back to.
To bring up the control panel in win 8 press the windows key and type control panel. You'll hear it say so and hit enter.
I also don't know why you can't simply remove Chrome.
You can use Google or Bing and search for Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts. That will help you much with navigation.
I'm a GMan myself.
I've used google myself, seem to have an easier time with it than other engines, although I still use dogpile from time to time.
i like bing and google both. i've used them before. but i enjoy useing google. it is great. i some times have problams but i take my time though. doing things slow. still gets you there.
I prefer google, for sure.
As for uninstalling google chrome, I know that in windows 7 it's a tricky application to uninstall because it doesn't shut down properly. If you can access the task manager (or the windows 8 equivalent) find any chrome processes and kill them, then try uninstalling again.
